About the Author
Elishia Shelene Diallo grew up in Bronx, New York (aka “Da Boogie Down” Bronx). She graduated from Evander Childs High School in 1981. After high school, she joined the Navy where she served four years of Active Duty and two years of Navy Reserves.
She has had various work experiences after serving her country, but one of the most pivotal was as a Journeyman Carpenter. Upon her return to New York after the Navy, she enrolled in a program called Nontraditional Training for Women and was accepted into the New York City District Council Carpenters’ Apprenticeship Program. She was in that program for four years and graduated as a Journeyman (the highest level in carpentry). She was in the Carpentry field for a decade where she served as a major contributor to many notable projects in New York City. Some of those projects included the renovation of the Long Island Expressway, renovation of the Pulaski Bridge, construction of the Arthur Ashe Tennis Stadium, and the rehabilitation of Times Square – 42nd Street, just to name a few.
After having worked in Carpentry for so long, Elishia went back to school for Graphic Design and lastly, Registered Nursing. Upon graduation from the New York City College of Technology in 2008 with her Registered Nursing Associate’s Degree, she worked full time at Kings County Hospital while attending school part time for her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. She was awarded her Bachelor’s degree in 2014.
She is the proud mother of two daughters Shaneek Martin and Zulekha Martin – both of whom she attributes as the motivation for many of her accomplishments and goals. In her spare time, Elishia knits, crochets, designs t-shirts and is the sole creator of Hustle High, her lifestyle brand.The modern day Renaissance Woman is an aspiring author of a series of fictional sequel books based on her life and times.
